About Us & Rules
Queer Ride was created in 2011 in Austin, TX as an inclusive, no-drop, social bike ride for LGBTQIA+ folks & allies.
The goal has always been to create a safe environment for all riders, but we cannot control, nor do we desire to, every rider's behavior. We promote personal responsibility, and it is each rider's responsibility to take care of themselves, and if they choose to ride with us, then they accept those risks inherent in riding a bicycle with a large group of other people riding bicycles.
Bring your friends, helmets, lights & locks!
We stop and mass up when we can.
If you leave the ride, please inform the sweep so they are not looking for you later.
QR rides AS traffic and NOT AGAINST it. We avoid sidewalks as much as possible. We stop at red lights, yield the right of way, and don’t block extra lanes at intersections. We share the road with all vehicles. We own the right lane fully if there is no bike lane or if the bike lane is hazardous.
We ALWAYS yield to pedestrians on crosswalks, sidewalks, and trails. Ring your bells or call out “ON YOUR LEFT” before you pass pedestrians!
Listen to call-outs like “car up” or “stopping” or “left/right turn”, and echo them back for riders behind you. Holler “CAR BACK!” loud and clear.
